PAINT If you should fancy doing some artistic creation on the Psion Series 3 try using this. PAINT is my graphics program based on an outline by Bill Aitken in his book "Serious Programming on the Psion Series 3". It is not entirely bug free and sure could benefit from a mouse! However it does enable screen sized pictures and also Icons to be produced (Including its own Icon.) I welcome comments from anyone on this program, especially ways of improving it. If anyone produces a masterpiece using PAINT I would love to see it. Each feature is accessed via the menu key and exited via the Esc key. If you are faced with a totally blank screen just press MENU which should reassure you that your machine has not died. It is best to save full screen pictures with a .PIC extension and icons with a .ICN extension, if you wish to edit them later. The program is an OPA application and can be installed like other applications via "Psion-I" once the files are copied to suitable directories. Copy Paint.OPA to an \APP\ directory. Copy Paint.ICN to an \OPD\ directory. Copy Paint.WRD to an \WRD\ directory if you wish. **MENU** FUNCTIONS Use "Menu" or "Psion" & hot key to access the available functions in PAINT. When finished with each function press Escape (sometimes two or three times). CURSOR The cursor is moved around the screen using the arrow keys (No mouse or mouse driver available yet I regret.) **FILES** NEW clears the screen for a new picture. LOAD loads an existing picture with the extension .PIC SAVE saves the on screen picture to any given file name. DELETE deletes any named file. EXIT quits (closes down) the PAINT program. **TOOLS** LINE Lines are drawn by pressing Enter at the start and end of each line. TRIANGLE Triangles are drawn by pressing Enter to start the Enter again at the first corner then Enter again at the second corner to complete the triangle. BOX Enter defines the top left hand or bottom right hand corner of the box, open it out using the arrow keys, then press Enter to complete it. ELLIPSE First give the required number of vertices, the more the smoother (and slower) the drawing. Use the arrow keys to find the centre, then press Enter to start, sweep out a box with the arrow keys to define the size and shape of the ellipse then press Enter to have it drawn. FILL move the cursor inside an enclosed shape to be filled and press Enter. If the fill is not complete repeat this procedure in the unfilled area. BRUSH The brush is moved around using the "arrow" keys and applied to the canvas by holding down the "Shift" key. The brush size can be adjusted by using the "<" & ">" keys. A clear brush makes a good erasor. **ICONS** ZAP brings up a cleared grid for your icon creation. Move around the grid using the arrow keys and toggle pixels black/clear with the enter key. OPEN opens an existing Icon file with the extension .ICN. WRITE saves the icon, use extension .ICN. KILL deletes any chosen icon file. **TEXT** TEXT enables text to be edited and inserted in various appearances. FONT allows selection of the limited range of fonts. STYLE Add the numbers together to achieve the style you desire. **SPECIAL** MODE Enables selection of Graphics and Text modes. DUMP Enables screen dumps to serial or parallel printer (Epson compatible) via the Link 3 cable. BORDER Adding the numbers allows various border options to be added to your picture. VERSION gives the version number of this program. Well that's it! It's free, have fun, Tony Sutton CIS: 100112,465
